The oldest theme park in Florida hopes to thrill holidaymakers for generations to come with a major overhaul. Founded in 1936, the Florida veteran could open its revamped doors in March 2009 with a whole new focus on water and gardens. The park's ski show - one of its most famous attractions - will remain, as will the botanical gardens that have thrilled visitors for decades. At the gardens "native plants and exotic species combine in a magnificent display creating a horticultural masterpiece," the park's representatives say. Cypress Gardens' water park will also be extended to create more splashing swimwear-related fun. Locals and those who know about Florida and its history will be aware that Cypress Gardens became central Florida's first tourist attraction when it opened in the 1930s. The park is set to close in the next few days in preparation for its facelift but Florida holidaymakers are likely to only have to wait four months to see its new reincarnation.
